Students who intern at Northern Family Intervention Services (NFIS) can expect to gain experience in home-based services, wraparound services, family support, parent education, adoption and foster care placement preservation, and family reunification. Interns at NFIS receive Pre Service Training in the Teaching Family Model and attend weekly multidisciplinary staff meetings with NFIS and Community Mental Health staff. As the internship progresses, students will have increased responsibilities of performing intakes, assessments, plan of service meetings, and assuming a teaching/therapy role with the families they serve. While internship positions are unpaid, mileage expenses incurred on behalf of services to a family are reimbursed. NFIS also serves Otsego, Cheboygan, Crawford, and Roscommon Counties.
